Alpbach as trailblazer in the sustainability sector
The Tirolean mountain village of Alpbach is one of the first conference destinations in Austria to consistently address the subject of “sustainability”.
The “Austrian Ecolabel” for Green Meetings and the international “Green Globe Certification” attest to the high quality standards of Congress Center Alpbach. The first ever “Green Meeting” was also certified here with the Austrian Ecolabel.
Sustainability has been practised in Alpbach for many years and is firmly rooted in the village philosophy. Guests appreciate this authentic credibility, while organisers benefit from the high level of professionalism provided by the green meeting concept.
In Alpbach, Green Meeting represents a comprehensive overall experience. In addition to Congress Centrum Alpbach, which offers the very highest technical and ecological standards, accommodation providers and catering establishments provide the perfect partnership with regard to organisation and environmental friendliness. With no less than 10 eco-label licensees in Alpbach, the Tirolean mountain village is positioning itself as a sustainable conference destination with a focus on regional added value. Another seven accommodation providers are currently (as of spring 2021) striving for Austrian eco-label certification.
Straight from the neighbours
Patriotism is embodied in great food. Gasthof Hotel Post abides by the principle of using the shortest supply chain and purchases fresh milk and meat from the neighbouring farm, owned by brother Rudolf Rainer. Animal welfare is a primary consideration, as well as ensuring that products of only the highest quality are used. This also applies to the use of seasonal fruit and vegetables, sourced directly from small local providers.
Gasthof Hotel Post has practised the concept of sustainability for generations and great care is placed on using products from regional farms.
Tasteful and regional experiences at AREA47
Nature and environmental awareness play a major role at AREA 47: great effort has been invested in keeping the ecological footprint as small as possible, with initiatives such as employee clothing made from recycled plastic by adidas parley, a ban on the use of plastic straws and admission wristbands made from fabric.
A cooperation with Haiming fruit warehouse now contributes to supporting local agriculture and draws the attention of attendees to healthy, local products. Conference attendees can look forward to Öztal apples as a tasty welcome gift in their rooms and guests in the Lakeside Restaurant are also treated to products from regional suppliers, including Fleischhof Oberland (butchers), Mairs Beerengarten (berries) or trout caught directly from the Ötztal Ache River.
“Waters from the Ötztale Ache River, on which we go rafting, are also used to irrigate the apple trees in Haiming. Regionality is of great importance to us and you can’t get any more regional than when water comes back to us in the form of apples, as a tasty, natural source of energy“, explains AREA47 managing director, Christian Schnöller.
Helping hands from AREA47, the bees, are also busy over the summer collecting a supply of these sweet treats from numerous green spaces, to the benefit of all concerned.
