The Convention Bureau Tirol (CBT) aims to continuously expand its role as a sustainable competence center in the MICE industry (MICE – Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events).
In order to be able to measure the sustainable development, the Convention Bureau Tirol has submitted itself to an extensive international destination benchmarking process of the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index, which measures more than 71 performance criteria in the areas of environment, social affairs, suppliers and destination management.
At its first participation, the meeting destination Tirol catapulted itself directly into the top 10 of the world’s most sustainable congress destinations at sixth place among more than 73 international participants in total.
Particularly high results were achieved in the criteria of environment, social affairs and destination management. The CBT’s sustainability strategy “ReGeneration NOW” of the meeting and congress destination Tirol and the new tourism strategy “Tirolean Way” made significant contributions to these results. There is still room for improvement in the area of value chain. This includes, for example, the certifications of individual businesses, arrival options and a lack of impact management. The corresponding next steps are already included in the Convention Bureau Tyrol’s catalog of measures.
