From a strategy meeting to a high-wire adventure

How do you organise a team workshop that delivers real results, has a lasting impact, strengthens team spirit and opens up new perspectives? To find out, we spent a day with a company during their team meeting in Tirol – from focused work in the seminar room, to overcoming a fear of heights at the climbing park, and a convivial evening at the hotel bar.

A consultancy firm from Stuttgart chose the Aqua Dome – Tirol Therme Längenfeld for its three-day team workshop. A good choice, as this modern conference and spa hotel in the Ötztal Valley not only boasts a stunning location in the heart of the mountains but is also ideally equipped for seminars of various sizes. The ideal conditions for a productive yet relaxing break away from the daily grind of office life.

The day begins with a hearty breakfast featuring fresh produce from local farmers, followed by a walk in the countryside. Refreshed and inspired by the breathtaking views of the Ötztal Alps, the team sets to work with renewed vigour. The main aim of the workshop is to improve internal communication. Supported by an experienced communications trainer from Tirol, the team discusses feedback culture, the distribution of roles and day-to-day challenges. What’s noticeable is that even normally reserved team members are keen to actively contribute to the discussions – inspired by the open and trusting atmosphere resulting from professional organisation and new surroundings. The feedback sessions and fun activities help to build mutual trust within the team and foster a greater understanding of each other’s work. By the end of the workshop, everyone is visibly motivated to put the strategies developed together and the expert’s practical tips into practice when they get back to the office.

After lunch, the adventurous part of the day begins. The group takes a bus to the nearby AREA 47, Europe’s largest outdoor adventure park. The challenge they are to take on today is a spectacular high-rope course dangling 27 metres above the ground. One by one the members of the group carefully balance their way across 140 different obstacles such as tree trunks and nets. It’s an experience that requires plenty of physical and mental effort, demanding courage, trust and communication, whilst at the same time rewarding participants with plenty of giggles. Even though it was a real nail-biter for some, in the end everyone is delighted with the shared experience, which has brought the team even closer together.

Back at the hotel, there’s still time to let the day’s experiences sink in and relax in the spacious spa area with panoramic views of the mountains. At dinner, the atmosphere is relaxed, lively and close-knit. Conversations flow more easily, and new ideas emerge almost effortlessly. The day ends at the hotel bar with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. What remains is more than just the feeling of having had a good time together – the group has successfully developed new strategies, strengthened their trust in one another and overcome challenges together. It is a day whose impact will continue to be felt long after the workshop is over.
