Sustainability Certifications

In Tirol, two systems are primarily used:

• Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings & Events – a nationally established, audited standard
• Green Events Tirol – a regional initiative with a practical approach

Both schemes are recognised, comparable and lend external credibility.

Choosing the right certification depends primarily on the nature, scope and objectives of your event:

The Austrian Ecolabel (UZ 62) is the right choice if you are seeking an officially audited certification that is recognised both nationally and internationally. It is particularly suitable for specialist and business events (Green Meetings) as well as larger events with high standards of quality and transparency.

Green Events Tirol is ideal if you are looking for a practical, regional and accessible solution. You benefit from free advice, flexible categories (Basic to Star) and a strong local network – particularly suitable for events in Tirol with a focus on feasibility and regional impact.

That depends on the system chosen. At Green Events Tirol, the process is deliberately kept streamlined – with early planning and support from the free advisers, certification is a realistic prospect even with shorter lead times. 

For the Austrian Ecolabel, sufficient planning time should be allowed, as an external audit is required. As a rule of thumb, the earlier you incorporate this into your planning, the more smoothly the process will run.

Retrospective certification is generally not possible – both systems require sustainability criteria to be actively incorporated into the planning and implementation stages. Whilst some measures can be implemented at short notice, the full benefits – and certification – are achieved through forward-planning.
