Sustainability in Conventionland Tirol

A ‘Green Location’ is an event venue that is certified to recognised sustainability standards and facilitates environmentally conscious meetings – for example, through energy-efficient infrastructure, sustainable catering and resource-efficient event planning.

In Tirol, two systems are primarily used:

• Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings & Events – a nationally established, audited standard
• Green Events Tirol – a regional initiative with a practical approach

Both schemes are recognised, comparable and lend external credibility.

That depends on the system chosen. At Green Events Tirol, the process is deliberately kept streamlined – with early planning and support from the free advisers, certification is a realistic prospect even with shorter lead times.

For certification under the Austrian Ecolabel, sufficient time should be allowed, as an external audit is required. As a rule of thumb, the earlier you incorporate this into your planning, the smoother the process will run.

There are a number of things – and many of them are easier than you might think: organising group tickets for the train, providing travel information with specific connections and Riding Times, offering shuttle services from the station, or presenting the train journey as part of the experience. Those who highlight climate-friendly travel options and actively recommend them can significantly increase the take-up rate.
