The interactive dairy demonstrates how fresh hay milk is processed into cheese, yogurt, and butter. The tour and tasting foster a sense of community.
How is fresh milk turned into cheese, yogurt, and butter? Hay farming has been a tradition in the Zillertal for centuries. Since 1954, the Kröll family has been processing hay milk and refining the precious raw materials from cows, sheep, and goats.
In Austria’s first demonstration dairy, participants take a detailed tour of the 6,000 m² production facility to learn how hay milk from 400 alpine pastures makes its way into the package. In the glass-walled production area, visitors can watch the cheesemakers at work right over their shoulders. During the “tasting session,” you can experience the quality and flavor of the creamy yogurt selection for yourself and sample the various products.
The Zillertal Adventure Dairy is easily accessible by public transportation. Take the train to Jenbach, then transfer to the Zillertalbahn to Mayrhofen. From the Mayrhofen train station, it’s about a 15–20-minute walk (approx. 1.3 km) to the Adventure Dairy. Alternatively, bus line 8327 stops directly at the “Mayrhofen Erlebnissennerei” bus stop, right in front of the entrance.
