East Tyrol

East Tyrol can be reached by direct bus from Innsbruck to Lienz in around three hours, with four services a day. From Vienna, there is a direct train with a journey time of around six hours. By car, the region is easily accessible via the Felbertauern Road from the north and via the Brenner Pass and South Tyrol from the south. The nearest airports are Innsbruck (approx. 2 hours) and Salzburg (approx. 2.5 hours), from which shuttle transfers can be booked.

Visitors can use all buses in East Tyrol free of charge – a major advantage for groups wishing to travel sustainably and flexibly between towns. The public bus network provides reliable connections between the main valleys and towns. In addition, taxis and regional shuttle services are available for transfers between accommodation, venues and event locations.

East Tyrol encompasses the entire district of Lienz, with the Dolomite town of Lienz as its regional centre, as well as numerous valleys and municipalities: the Upper Puster Valley with Sillian, the wild and romantic Defereggen Valley with Hopfgarten, St. Veit and St. Jakob, the Virgental valley with Prägraten at the Großvenediger, the Hohe Tauern National Park region around Kals am Großglockner, and the Tirolean Gailtal and Lesachtal valleys.
