10 tips for your personal Green Event

It's very oragnise to make an event "green".

Afraid of too much effort? We have the best ideas on how you can easily make your event “green”. And we have gathered 10 tips for sustainable meetings and summarised everything you need to pay attention to in a checklist!

Meetings and events are important opportunities to network, exchange experience and knowledge and create moments of discovery. However, the MICE industry does not only want to position itself in a professional way, also the idea of sustainability is increasingly coming into focus. The aim is to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible by organizing “Green Meetings”.

10 tips for your personal Green Event:

 1. Think “green” from the beginning
“Sustainability has priority”- inform providers and employees about the planned measures right from the start. Communicate in the save the date that it is a green meeting and involve all participants. For example, organize a sweepstake for people who travel in a climate-neutral manner.

2. Choose wisely
When selecting and obtaining offers, look out for various environmental labels, certifications and above all, how the individual locations are equipped. Ask whether the business has energy-efficient technology.
HERE you can find an overview of the green labels that the Convention.Tirol network possesses.

3. Work paperless
Carry out project management, participant and invitation management, conference material and general correspondence strictly online and inform the participants about it in advance. Use online tools such as apps for digital interaction.

4. Climate-neutral movement
Whether it’s the participants or contracted companies, there are many alternatives for covering short distances without a car and for emission-reduces means of transport. Use the regional transportation and provide your partners with information regarding car sharing offers, present short walks to the location / accommodation or recommend a bike rental. Again, keep everyone informed about this sustainable option!

5. Think global, act local
On site there are exactly THE specialists for catering, social program or for support in finding accommodation. Therefore, it is best to use local partners (agencies) and local products as much as possible.
The experts of the Convention Bureau Tirol will be happy to support you individually at any time.

6. “green” catering
Use regional and seasonal products, reusable or at least recyclable for the tableware. Also, remember to order appropriate quantities and look into options for sharing food in the event of an overage.
Inform your participants where the products for the meals come from. Because let’s face it: fresh farm-bread with butter and chives tastes even better when you know that everything comes from the farm in the region.

7. Recycling
Put as much as possible into the dual System. Provide “seperated” wast bins in front of and behind the scenes and also provide an adequate system to separate the wast.

8. Make new out of old
There are reusable solutions for signs of all kinds of stuff, collect an keep it in store. This also applies for counters, banners & co. Neutral branding ensures multiple use.

9. Green Event Certification
You have decided to have your event certified as a Green Event and still need detailed information? We are happy to connect you with “Green Events Tirol” and support you on your way to the Green Event Label.
